Hop growing in Belgium does not command the same acreage as in neighbouring countries such as Germany or the UK. But its mild climate, fertile soil, and agricultural traditions mean that it’s remained an important industry for certain regions of the country. We started our journey to find the Hidden Beers of Belgium in the country’s hop fields, taking it back to basics to learn what role this ingredient—often under-appreciated because of Belgium’s superstar yeast and complex malts—might have played in its under-appreciated beers.
